Investing in Our Roots: Rural King to Build New Hangar at Coles County Memorial Airport

At Rural King, our roots run deep in Central Illinois—and our commitment to the region continues to grow. We're proud to announce an exciting new development: a brand-new aviation hangar coming soon to Coles County Memorial Airport (MTO) in Mattoon, Illinois.

This project isn’t just about building infrastructure—it’s about building connection.

For over 18 years, Rural King has utilized private aviation to support our ever-growing network of retail operations. With 150 stores projected across 17 states and over 9,000 associates by the end of 2025, we’re growing fast—and that growth requires smart, strategic investments that make life better for our people and our communities.

Why a New Hangar?

The new hangar will allow us to centralize and expand our aviation operations, giving our teams more flexibility and reducing travel time. That means Rural King associates can spend more time in the field—and more importantly, more time at home with their families.

“The success of our business relies on our Mattoon team staying connected with our retail, distribution, and vendor partners,” said Alex Melvin, Owner and Chairman of Rural King. “We want our teams in the field—but we also want to make sure they get home as safely and quickly as possible.”
